The birds and the tree tanka

1/
too much argument
to win about loyalty
and love? what love?
ah, look! the pine we planted
welcoming the birds to nest

2/
how long the drought
will it be in our marriage?
before the first rain
we know the baby birds
flying off the bare tree

uninvited guest
the wind blows a pine cone
along the corridor

tamu tak diundang
angin menyepak bunga pinus
sepanjang selasar

Illegal alien haiku

amongst the pine branches
mistletoe blooms

Exfoliated stories haiku

stories exfoliated
pine trees on the roadside
are you still there?

aku mencarimu
kisah-kisah terkelupas
dari batang cemara tepi jalan

At the boulevard tanka

dawn returns
to boulevard seeing
those pines collecting the dews
where do you head for
only time will tell

pagi selalu ingin kembali
ke bulevar menyaksikan embun
berkumpul pada pucuk-pucuk pinus
ke mana kau menuju
biar kutunggu dua tiga windu

Christmas in Pullman haiku

christmas eve
pine trees losing snow

Winter seems to come early in Pullman, Washington. My friend Liana Munir wrote that grasses were covered by ice weeks before winter. And when it comes, the street was deep under tons of snow. But, "It's an obvious impact of climate change," Lia says, pointing finger at the rising temperature in Pullman that drives away the snow. It melts very quickly, and people put off their fury coat, changed them into sweater and lighter clothing.

This is a haiku for Liana Munir.
